The Industrial Vagina: Globalisation of the sex industry
(19 downloads)Download this episode (8 min)
The industrialization of prostitution and the sex trade has created a multi-billion dollar global market, making an enormous contribution to the global economy. Feminist author Sheila Joy Jefferies has examined the growth of the industry in her new book "The Industrial Vagina: The political economy of the global sex trade".
The book tells of how the industry has moved from being small-scale operations to very profitable, legitimate market sectors that are being legalised and decriminalised by governments.
Sheila Joy Jefferies is a professor of sexual politics, with the school of Social and Political Sciences at Melbourne University, speaking here with Ellice Mol.
