The Good German - the play (not be confused with the movie...)

Black Pearl is Sydney's newest theatre company. It was founded by Sheryl Sciro, and Frank van Putten.
The Black Pearl's first production is The Good German by award-winning American playwright, novelist and screenwriter David Wiltse is a compelling and ultimately uplifting play that follows four Germans during World War II. A university professor and his wife have, with some reluctance, hide a Jew in their home to prevent his deportation to the concentration camps.

Director of the play, Sheryl Sciro is speaking here with Ellice Mol prior to opening night.

The play runs at the Seymour Centre from 29 April to 24 May.

NSW Crime Stats released

Figures from the NSW Bureau of Crime statistics and research released today, show that generally the incidence of crime has not increased.
Apart from an increase in stealing from motor vehicles, much of the recorded crime has remained the same as results from previous years.
Commenting on the trends, Dr Weatherburn, director of NSW bureau says the major incidence of crime in NSW is still burglary.

Ellice Mol spoke to Dr Don Weatherburn, and asked him how the results compared to the 2006 statistics.

Youth Homelessness in Australia

The number of homeless youth in Australia has doubled in the last two
decades, as shown by the findings of a new report
released by the National Youth Commission

The results of the inquiry have prompted calls for a one billion
dollar injection of funding into youth prevention programs
and services.

Co-author of the report Associate Professor David Mackenzie,
says that the findings need to be treated with the same urgency
and determination as issues like water and climate change.

Environmentalists Hijack April Fools Day

In the spirit of April Fools, community and student bodies staged protests around Australia today, highlighting the effects of fossil fuels on climate change. The national day of protests, dubbed 'Fossil Fools Day', called for an end to the use of fossil fuels and a transition to renewable energy sources.
