The NSW government has today launched a new training program for Aboriginal foster carers. The improved training package has been developed with careful collaboration between the Department of community services and Aboriginal reference groups. A step by step Aboriginal Assessment tool will equip case workers with the skills to assess foster applicants. The "Our Carers for our kids training package" will include information on how to maintain the child's connection to family, community and culture.
Minister for the department of community services, Kevin Greene says the new package will show foster carers how to best support Indigenous children coming into foster care.
He spoke with Ellice Mol about the package.
